Normal People by Sally Rooney

This ultra human book broke my heart, remade it and then broke it again.
Sally Rooney, congratulations on writing a book so unique and yet so relatable. 👏🏻

My heart broke for Connell and Marianne as they tackled society’s difficulties and trials without losing each other not once.

This book speaks up about domestic violence, abuse, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, depression and loneliness. Some of those hit really close to home and made me appreciate this book double as much.

Marianne can be considered a “weird” character and person, as she has a different way of taking on and facing her problems, but I loved her for it. She reminded me of myself in some aspects, a thing which made me uncomfortable while reading this book, but in a good way.

The ending left me a bit annoyed and sad that even after all, Connell and Marianne weren’t able to get their happy ending (even though it left possibilities open,it still was frustrating)

There were some things that annoyed me/made it a little difficult for me to understand this book completely:

-the story lacked quotation marks. It’s was difficult to decipher who was talking, if it was a dialogue or if the protagonist was talking to him/herself

-there were huge time lapses that sometimes made it hard to keep up with the story, especially as things progressed.

-there wasn’t much description of landscapes, rooms, spaces or even the characters, which made it difficult to imagine the scenes, because we lacked scenery and characteristics.

I would definitely reread this and try other Sally Rooney books.
