Fierce Self-Compassion: How Women Can Harness Kindness to Speak Up, Claim Their Power, and Thrive by Kristin Neff
4.0
I wish I read this when I was 30! At 56, I learned most of the lessons presented in this book the hard way. For most of my life I was the classic nurturing woman who gave all she had to everyone else, never putting her own needs first, and rarely demanding fair and equal treatment. Somewhere in my late 40s I finally realized that I could not care for everyone else if I didn't care for myself first. Fierce self-compassion teaches us to turn that mama bear instinct inward, and treat and protect ourselves as well as we treat and protect everyone else. The real magic of the book occurs in Part III, which provides recommendations on how to put in all into practice - in the workplace, in our caregiving, in our romantic relationships. I think this is a must-read in today's society where women often need to "do it all", and frequently lose themselves in the process.
