Feversong by Karen Marie Moning

This review contains minor spoilers.

Feversong is a very satisfying conclusion to the main Mac/Barrons Fever story. I’m happy to leave them here. The world will be OK, Mac and Barrons are Epic and fovever (Fire to his ice, frost to her flame) and all the characters that I’ve become so fond of – if they’ve made it this far – are probably going to be OK (at least for a while).

The book opens with Mac and Jada trapped in the warehouse in the dark zone, by the Sweeper who’s fixin’ to Fix them; until Mac decides to make the ultimate sacrifice and take a spell to save Dani/Jada - and then the Sinsar Dubh is on the loose! (And doesn’t the repository for all evil have a perky little personality! For some reason I found the Sinsar Dubh Sh-booming through the White Mansion while dragging the cocooned unseelie princess by her hair- positively kitschy/campy a la Bruce Campbell and the Evil Dead.) Once the book is in possession of Mac it’s off to see the wizard, or find the Fae Queen to siphon the True Magic; with Barrons, Jada, The Brothers Unseelie (and a few of The Nine thrown in for good measure) in an amazing race to cut the little Sha-booming psychopath off at the pass. (Loved the Cruce and Christian brotherly bonding. “Let it go puppy. Walk with the big dogs.”).

Unfortunately, the Sinsar Duh isn’t the only fish to fry to save the world. The black holes are still growing, and the Earth likely has only a matter of months before it gets spaghetti sucked into nothing. While Mac & Company were in the silvers Ryodan and his daily “World News” took over as self-appointed planet saver (much to Dani/Jada’s chagrin) and then another race is on to find the Song of Making now that someone has the True Magic and can wield the Song.

Randome thoughts:
The Concubine/Aoibheal/Zara and the Unseelie King/DEG/Rain – Opportunities. Possibilities. Second chances!
Dancer and Dani – Sweet and sad and I get why Dani needed to go there first.
Ryodan and Dani – still….Meh. Maybe eventually.
Alina- Closure. I liked it.
Shazam – the Hel-Cat – Everyone should have a Shazam. If he isn’t in High Voltage I’m going to be VERY disappointed.
