The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch

4.0

For 95% of this book, I was IN. Lynch found a great recipe with this one, mixing past and present and schemes aplenty to deliver basically everything we could ask for from a Locke Lamora novel. And then... And then the ending was anticlimactic. And then S kept doing the same thing, and it wore thin. And then the epilogue set up a sequel that I fear threatens a retreat from the scheme-heaviness of this novel. This was a great read, and I would still recommend it to just about everyone. I just lost some enthusiasm for it towards the end.
