Turtles All the Way Down by John Green

5.0

This story hit so many of the niches I love:

1. Everyone speaks like they are an author the likes of Amy Sherman-Palladino (Gilmore Girls), Aaron Sorkin (West Wing), or Jane Austen (Pride and Prejudice, obvi). In some ways, the three main characters actually are all authors.
2. It recognizes the absurdity of modern life: college debt, rich vs. poor, minimum wage jobs, doing homework when someone has died, etc.
3. A realistic ending. *Spoilers,* but Aza ends up without love, and the boy ends up without the billions. It’s a story in which everyone is okay at the end - but it is not perfect for anyone.
4. A realistic depiction of something I don’t understand. John Green lives with OCD, and I valued being inside the character’s head as they experienced what that’s like.
5. It makes many Star Wars references.
6. It will be a great addition to my classroom library.

I loved it! Recommended to all.
