Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
2.0
In all honesty, I liked the story, mainly for the interactions among the peculiar children themselves. They were cute and very interesting. What I didn't like was the rushed climax. There was no build-up so the climactic scenes fell flat. I also didn't like the fact that the romantic aspect of the story felt very rushed and forced. There was no time for the characters to warm up to each other, so the interaction was unnatural.
I will still go in to read the second book, because I really want to know where the story goes and any new characters that will appear.
***EDIT***
Okay, so I had some time to really write a coherent review about this novel. I still stand by what I said about the interactions among the peculiar children, but that is all about it. Everything else was very bland, rushed, and disappointing. Like everyone else here, I thought that the pictures would add a really great and creepy element to the story, but they were just only awkward inserts. The plot kept falling short of the potential that it could of had. Like, there were SO many times when various scenes could have been tied together flawlessly, making everything much more mysterious and solid, but the narration only provided sloppiness.
I really am not a big fan at all of Jacob. I actually can't stand him. He became slightly less unbearable in the last two chapters, but that's it. He's a spoiled brat and the development of his character is next to null. Emma....has potential and slightly less annoying. And to be honest, their interactions has had absolutely NO chemistry whatsoever. Seriously, there were no sparks at all. The romance in this story was extremely rushed and I felt it added absolutely NOTHING to the plot of the story.
Overall, it was messy and kind of annoying. It kept me going in hopes of a better installment, but I don't know.
