Ruta Sepetys is truly a master of historical fiction. She has this incredible ability to blend honest and brutal truth with fiction to bring more awareness to specific eras across our history. She does so with such craft, it’s so easy to loose yourself into the story, events and characters. The pacing was a bit fluctuant; slowed down at parts that needed speed and sped up at others that I found I wanted more time to grasp. And it took me quite a bit to develop any connection to the characters but I did eventually. What I enjoyed the most is how much I learned while reading, I love a historical fiction that also have a learn and experience through the characters curve to it. But overall, definitely worth reading!
