The Phoenix King by Aparna Verma

Set in Indian inspired, sci-fi mediaeval times, this story grabs your attention from the very start. Finishing every chapter makes you hungry for the next one. Each chapter was a flavour of the unknown & the excitement was palpable. One of the things I really want to distinguish is that it had multiple pov's and how smooth the transitions were between them, definitely one of the things I loved in this book. It was neither fast paced nor slow paced, the entire rhythm of the book was on point. There were a lot of unexpected twists and turns, which quiet left me in mouth-hanging-open-shock. I really want to read the next book right away.

Coming to our FMC Elena, she is a hella strong one and I love me some strong FMC and she has the potential to emerge to be one of the toughest ones. As much as how strong she is, she also has a certain softness which makes her more graceful.
Our MMC Yaseen, I found him mysterious & soft.. even though he is an assassin, he still has a softness which wasn't dead yet and I love when the MMC's are written like that.

And the slow burn romance is definitely romancing, those stolen glances, the phantom of intimacy - it's all wrapped in a single package. Cherry on the top is its enemies to lovers and oh are they enemieng & loving as well.

Special shout out to the dupatta stuck on his sleeve scene, it was everything to melt my hopeless & og bollywood obsessed heart. I truly went gaga over it. Thanks to the writer for writing this particular scene.
