I HATED this book yet loved it at the same time. The main protagonist annoyed me with her naivety - some things were right under her nose. I absolutely despised the plot - it was dark, twisted, racist, sexist, classist, abusive, abominable! Yet I absolutely gobbled it up. The writing was simple and to the point. Altogether it repulsed and infuriated me. Yet I’d recommend this book! The characters that survived this book deserved too. The Classics classes tied up to the plot so well and finalized the story through the characters brilliantly. Would not compare this to the secret history though. Madam deserves its own shelf.
Graphic: Child abuse, Racism, Rape, Sexism, Forced institutionalization, and Classism
