Holy crap this book was horrifying, twisted, heart wrenching and somehow beautiful and emotional.

Switching points of views can be a mood and pacing killer but it worked wonderfully here. Jumping from Inara’s flashbacks and story telling to the detectives interacting with her was a perfect way to give the readers a sense of normalcy and moments of kindness.

But even the events in the Garden gave way to moments of tenderness. And I think that’s one major of the elements of the book that I truly loved: the moments between the girls. Their bravery and fight, and their gentleness with one another propels  your investment into the characters and the outcome.

This book was a struggle to read, but only because the madness and cruelty of the Gardner. It contains really heavy and dark themes + subject matter that I would caution anyone to double check the warnings. Make sure you’re in a good mental space to read this.
