House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski
2.0
I feel like the uncool kid that doesn't get the in-joke! Sure, it was unlike anything I'd ever read. I totally appreciated the risks and even the genius behind the book within a book within a book (within a movie?). The bizarre layout was interesting and new, but I couldn't get past how much of a nightmare it must have been for the layout department (a holdover from my days in publishing, no doubt). The story? Eh. Scariest book ever? Not even close. I'm glad I read it, though at times it was a lesson in endurance more than anything else.
Don't hate! I tried!
