izziede 's review for:

A King so Cold by Ella Fields
4.0

My review is a bit mixed.
There are some things I really didn't like and things I really liked in this story.

First of all of you are sensitive to the Hero or heroine being with others after meeting their intended then you will have issues with this book.

It starts with a scene of the Queen, in an intimate scene with her lover.

She is married but as the blurb reveals her husband betrayed her in some way and she has exiled him, wiping his memory.

Flashback scenes.

The King during his courtship played games with the heroine involving other women and that continues at times in the story.

There is another main male lead, as there is a sort of love triangle, but he doesn't sleep around, though his circumstances are not easy either.

The book is fantasy, it contains magic and mythical creatures. Although I personally get bored with too much description I feel the author needed more world building.

There are plenty of characters and potential for more books in the series.

I was a bit confused at times.

Creatures are mentioned but not really explained what they are.
There was the term half blood mentioned but no explanation as to what the mix was exactly.
Mid chapter, we changed scenes so the character was with someone else but that wasn't explained or led in to on occasion.

The plot ended up being quite good, lots of angst, if you don't mind a bit of bed hopping.
There were some intimate scenes other than who the heroine ends up with.
Technically cheating as although he is exiled the heroine is still married.

The heroine is quite dislikeable at times but I liked that, there were reasons why she was so cold and I felt it worked.

Possible triggers, gang rape. No details but after effects on a secondary character.
There is a party which is basically an orgy but small detail.

Multiple POV though primarily from the heroines POV.

HEA in the sense that not all the issues with enemies are resolved but they find happiness in their situation.
I expect some issues will continue in the next books but I expect the main couple in this book will continue their happiness as side characters of another couples story.

I would read more of the series about other couples.
