Pandemic by Robin Cook
3.0

First off, very unfortunate timing on this book. Publishing a Pandemic thriller the latter part of 2019? Nah, just wait for 2020 to see the real horror show.

The book itself is an easy read, but pretty slow. The first victim turns up quickly, but then the next 40% of the book is spent figuring out the victim's name. And by the halfway point, there is still no toxicology report with any information other than what they found in the autopsy.

Some of the story is set up merely for Cook to rant about anti-vaxers. He goes back to that a few times, and yeah, I get it. Autism was blamed on the MMR vaccine due to poor research, and then the anti-vaxers ran with it. Other than as a topic to revisit several times, the autism didn't play much of a part in the story.

I did enjoy the detective work tracking down the donor heart, and that whole story arc.

More of the story is about his stress at home with his in-laws than is about the pandemic.

All in all, it was a so-so story. Not great, not terrible.
