This Is Pleasure by Mary Gaitskill

3.0

I get the point after reading other reviews that helped me better understand it, and I can respect what it accomplishes in terms of lending you the perspectives of a sleazy well-to-do socialite who fondles women and woos them into friendship, and a friend who sympathizes with him after he's been accused of sexual harassment.

I've written and rewritten this review because I can't figure out if I hate these characters enough to not have enjoyed sitting with them for 83 pages, or if I feel this whole endeavor's accomplishments outweigh my distaste for it. I can't help but not want at all to sympathize with this very believable creep, or be in his headspace. I don't want to sit and ponder his actions with his sympathetic friend.

I think for the short commitment that this story is, and the reaction that it might induce in you, it's worth the read.
