Go Ask Alice
by Beatrice Sparks
Ridiculous conservative propaganda from the 70s that attempts to scare readers into 'not doing drugs'. I am almost 100% convinced this is a psyop or a state-sanctioned, anti-narcotics propaganda campaign funded by the Nixon administration.
Beyond the fact that I was very rudely tricked into reading a right-wing manifesto, this is the most Mormon-sounding book I have ever read. The plot is basically a girl goes to a 'popular-kid party', and they put LSD in the sodie-pops, and next thing you know - she's a crack fiend! And she's having - deep breath - pre-marital sex!!
The clearly fake 'lost diary' schtick is corny, especially considering how unrealistic and hyperbolic the whole scenario is. A middle-class white girl from the suburbs accidentally gets caught up with black-tar heroin after smoking weed literally once? Sure, Jan.
