2.5 ““The only thing I know for sure is you are trouble, and I wouldn’t want you any other way” stars

Please, Soren prayed, I need more than a body. I need Dany Petyr; I need him like the air I breathe. I haven’t felt this alive in years, and now that we’ve found each other, please don’t take him away from me.

Honestly I do not know what to say about this book, it was a fine read but nothing that blew me away and it really didn’t live up to what I wanted it to be. This book got me interested because it’s marketed as people on different sides of the law (which it’s not by the way, one of the main character is from a crime family but he lives a totally regular life and hates his family, so it doesn’t count, having a shitting family doesn’t make you automatically be on the wrong side of the law. The book was really fun and easy to read, I enjoyed reading it, I just had some issues with it. Mostly, I just didn’t feel like the main characters loved each other, which is kind of important in a “romance” book

Brief summary:
Dany is 26, he’s a cook and he’s trying to start a new life and run away from his family. Soren is 30 and a cop in the town where Dany ends up living. Dany and Soren met 3 years ago, had sex a couple of times and then Soren got shot by Dany’s cousin and Dany ran away while Soren was in the hospital.

For what I enjoyed, there was too much of the crime plot but it was really enteresting and engaging. I also really enjoyed both characters. Mostly Soren, Soren is such a solid guy and I really liked him. I can’t really pin-point what I enjoyed about this book but I had a really good time reading it and I wanted to keep reading it, so thats a win in my book.

First, this book was talking to me as if I was supposed to know a lot of backstory about the characters… but how would I? It was really confusing sometimes. I know i’m meant to have read other books before this for maximum understanding (books I haven’t read, of course) but at one point, the book kept me guessing for chapters if these guys had sex with other people when they were separated because it never told me if they did or not, it just assumed that I knew if they did or not, and somehow, i’m sure that wasn’t mentioned in the books in the other series.

Second, there was some hate sex in this which was really hot and I enjoyed it very much.

Third, I really liked how much pining Soren did over Dany, I love a good pining, so much.

Fourth, the investigation to romance ratio wasn’t to my liking. There wasn’t enough romance for me. It was 65% crime and 35% romance, these guys barely interacted, it just didn’t work gor me. The plot was good but lacked lots of romance, I think these guys were in the same room like 6 times in the entire book.

Fifth, one of the biggest thing I don’t like with second chance is when you can’t feel their connection from before and how they fit together and I felt that way here. These people had sex three time and the book tried to convince me that they were in love, and never forgot the other in 3 years. Which just didn’t work for me. I didn’t see how they were meant to be, at all.

Sixth, I liked how Soren was fearful that dany would leave him again, what I didn’t like was how I didn’t feel like Dany never groweled enough to make me forget that he left Soren alone in an hospital bed after the guy got shot. I needed him to say sorry and make me believe that he wouldn’t do it again, but he never did.

Seventh, the guys were always fucking instead of communicating and some of the sex scenes weren’t even that good, it’s such a shame.

Eight, look, I enjoy insta love most of the time but the characters need to actually interact with each other for it to work. These people had sex three times almost three years ago and apparently were in love with each other then. Now 3 years later, they had sex 3 times and had like 5 conversations and they’re in love, still. How? What are you in love with? The other’s dick? Can’t be their personality, you guys barely talked the entire book.

This was a really fun book, I just didn’t feel any spark between the two main characters, and I badly wanted more romance.

I received a copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
