The Plot to Save Socrates by Paul Levinson
3.0
The premise was super-interesting — time travel to prevent Socrates' death — but the execution ultimately fell short of expectations. I expected more philosophical discussion, though I read that for some it has too much. I expected a stronger explanation for someone setting out on the path of making Socrates change his mind. I expected narrative congruence, despite the necessary time jumps of time travel. But perhaps the biggest problem came with the fact that for the first time I was unable to suspend my disbelief about time travel. I spent much of the book theorising about why it is not possible, much influenced by Carlo Rovelli.
