A Separate Peace
by John Knowles
I could feel where this book was headed from the start. I think this is a book that I would have liked more if I'd read it ten years ago or with a high school or college literature class instead of just reading it on my own. Still, the story captures a particular moment in development where an adolescent is teetering on the brink between childhood and adulthood. Even so, I didn't love the characters and didn't end up caring much about their lives or their problems--maybe I would have been more gripped by the story when I was closer in age to the characters.
