The way that Emma Cline captures Alex's story over just a few days is so fascinating and complicated. Alex's habits and delusions make her such an interesting character and as she faces different trials and meets new people over the course of the book the reader thinks more about class and addiction in the 21st century. There are points when we feel sympathy for the characters and other points when we loathe them for their actions. That tension, especially within the elite setting that Alex resides, as well as the skillful writing style, made me unable to put the book down.
