5/5 PERFECT READ
@sophia thanks for recommending this book!
The author slayed at writing this so poetically and using metaphors of crocodiles to portray the fate of lgbtq+ during the conservative society. Though it’s been 30 years, there is still some parallels we can see.
Crocodile on the bath oooo
This book successfully digs out the feeling of humans being unable to achieve their desires due to strictures

One of the best books read about lgbtq literature
I wanna ask Ms Irene to see if we can read this in Chinese Lit too

Overall I just feel like this book is a LGBTQ version of Romeo and Juliet… whether or not it’s Meng Sheng and Chu Kuang or Lazhi and Shui Ling. THE PROBLEM BEHIND WAS THE conservative 80s post martial law Taiwanese society. Very deeply influenced by Taoism and the old Chinese concept of “the ladders of society”. I totally understand how they would pursue each other within a distance just to clear up the sinful way of how society perceives the lgbtq+. This makes them feel like they have to choose one side of yin and yan in order to accept themselves. But at the end they learn that their desires still exist… love is love… no matter what they change… cos it equates to more suffering… not being able to accept oneself and the guiltiness that lives through

In the end this book teaches me to be honest about who you love and not love. Pride!!!
Yay great time to read this book
pRIde month

Together, we can. We don’t want another Qiu Maojin. Her words of pain are enough.
