Just like with Steelheart, I'm having trouble coming up with a rating here. For now, it's going to be at 3.5 out of 5 because I really feel like the book is better than 3 stars, but at the same time the "really liked it" 4 stars seems like a bit of a stretch. Here's the thing: it's exactly the same structure as Steelheart with everything exciting happening in the last 100 pages. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of action before that but it's all very... same ol' Epic hunting and David being awkward. There is a people-with-superpowers trope in Firefight that annoys me to no end every time it comes up in books, and even though in this particular story it made more sense than it normally does—it was still getting on my nerves. Of course, the action and the world-building are still great.
