Okay so I may or may not have known this book was YA (young adult)…Truth is I didn’t know but I love me some YA. However, even though I love YA books, you know what I love more? Emotionally mature and emotionally intelligent characters 😬 Hear me out, that’s my ONLY critique, which I mean it’s understandable given the age of the characters. Honestly it was some moments, not the whole book because so much was sweet and handled beautifully- the relationships, the family discussions and dynamics, the reflections Nala would make with her lists, the social justice work portrayed and discussion, I loved it. Honestly as a twenty something year old going eighty something year old woman, maybe I’m not the target audience and that’s okay 🥲 I still enjoyed the book and it’s themes of being true to yourself and self love!
