Beautifully Cruel
by J.T. Geissinger
This was the perfect read. Somehow, I came across this right as it released (though I didn't follow J.T. Geissinger too closely--that has since changed). I was coming out of a ridiculous book hangover and couldn't get into a lot of books, but this one had so many elements that I love: an element of the forbidden, a dangerous guy, some dark romance, and even a damsel-in-distress moment.
Truvy is strong and well-matched for the enigmatic Liam Black, whose reputation precedes him for all but Truvy. He spends nearly a year talking himself out of talking to her; he drops by the diner where she works periodically, but remains distant as ever. Liam can't let go, so he reaches a compromise of sorts, starting a whirlwind relationship brimming with emotions the two can't verbalize. With twists, the mafia, assassination plots, and steam-to-the-max, Tru and Liam's relationship is anything but boring.
