Please Look After Mom
by Kyung-sook Shin
Having lost my mom didn't make reading this one easy - but it made it easy at the same time. Does that even make sense?
It's just one of those books that really hits you right in the feels. I mean, seriously, I was not prepared for the emotional rollercoaster it took me on. From the very first page, I found myself totally invested in the characters [ the kids, the dad, the mom, and even the friend ] and their journey. And let me tell you, there were definitely tears involved. Like, I'm talking about full-on ugly crying here. The way it explores the relationship between a mother and her family just hit way too close to home. I couldn't help but think about my own mom and how much I miss her. It's a beautiful tribute to all the moms out there, and it left me feeling grateful for the love and sacrifices my own mom has made for me. So yeah, four stars from me for sure. But fair warning, have some tissues handy when you read this one.
