The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo
5.0

This book was AMAZING!!! Read it in two sittings because it is definitely very accessible reading, but damn does it make you think and feel so many things. I loved the portrayal of Xiomara's complicated relationship with her family, friends, and church. I think that
Spoiler while the repairing of Xiomara's relationship with her mother is a bit rushed at the end, it makes sense because it's being fit within the timeframe of this book, much like her quick romance with Aman. I think that while that kind of repairing of a relationship would take something more like a few years to happen, this IS something that happens- parents very much can change for the better.
I thought the poetry worked so incredibly well and this book depicts so many things that I think many teenagers can relate to and will understand on a visceral level. Highly recommend!
