ann liang is my new guilty pleasure.

hell, she’s not even a guilty pleasure. reading her books is an honor. she makes me believe in love, in butterflies and tingling sensations. the dedication in this book was for the cynics that thought they couldn’t believe in love, which is exactly how i view myself. yet ann liang makes me feel as though i can still feel. i found myself taken by eliza; her struggles with finding ‘home’ was something that resonated with me, the way she twists her words and bullshits her way through emotions was something i’ve done and continued to do. with caz, i found solace in knowing that someone else out there puts up a facade for the sake of their image, and i pray to one day find the one i could ket my walls down around, the same way he could around eliza. their relationship was so sweet, though — and this is primarily what brought down the rating for me — i hated the way they resolved their issues after the fight. i mean, i understand the confession and all, but i expected at least a “sorry.” still, i thought this was a very human book. it felt more tethered than “if you could see the sun,” and i could feel the growth in liang’s writing. overall, another great book from someone who’s rapidly becoming one of my favorite authors.
