I very much enjoyed the first half of the book when we meet Mary and follow her life as she goes from one home to another. I enjoyed reading about the exploration of her learnin and her new home and secrets within, but when we meet Colin, he takes over the book and plot of the story and it becomes ever so tedious.  It's definitely a beloved childhood book for many, but I could do with more Mary and Dickon adventures and less Colin.
