I sette killer dello Shinkansen
by Kōtarō Isaka
slow-paced
This is hands down the worst book I have ever read in my life. I've never come so close to DNFing a book like I have with this complete and utter waste of trees. The premise was immaculate and the execution was messier than a toddler who's been left unsupervised for 6 minutes. The plot was like wading through treacle and only got going after suffering through the first 400 pages. If it had been marketed as a comedy thriller I might have loathed it slightly less but that wouldn't have made any of the characters any more interesting or believable. We're supposed to understand that these people are revered and respected in their fields when in reality they couldn't pour water out of a boot if the instructions were on the heel. None of them can even make up for how truly dull, unoriginal, insufferable and exasperating that daft git of a teenager is. The classic case of the over indulged, self absorbed, arrogant angsty teenager who thinks he knows more than the grown ups but really he just needs to be punched in the gums a few times. This book has no redeeming qualities and if anyone ever recommends it to you, know that they have no taste in literature or they just hate you.
