Seems at first like a nice telling of the lives of ordinary people, and then every chapter will sucker punch you with a pointed summation of being a girl, loving a friend, experiencing the human condition, developing class consciousness, having a fraught relationship with your mother, watching your childhood slip away. Really glad there is more to this story.
