Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez
4.0

This is definitely one of my top AJ books now. I liked the slow burn build up, the quirkiness of Justin and Emma's banter and relationship, the travel nurse perspective, the found family aspects, and the growth and maturity both characters went through before they could come together successfully.

There were a lot of heavy topics discussed, and I thought they were handled well and with great care. The situation with Emma's mom infuriated me and broke my heart at the same time, and later in the story when more is revealed about her mom's past...That almost broke me. Justin's family situation was also gut wrenching, and watching him navigate those waters while still trying to keep Emma in his life was admirable.

I did get annoyed later on in the book when they kept referencing Emma "getting small." I completely understand what they meant, why they used that terminology, and I liked the fact that the people closest to her knew to use that phrase to describe her mental state...but it was just WAY too repetitive after the first 10 times it was used. It pulled me out of the severity of the situation and made me disconnect with the story for a bit.

Overall, I loved them as a couple, I loved the hoops they had to jump through, the family side characters added a ton to the story's development, and watching these two overcome obstacle after obstacle was endearing.
