God, what a perfect book this was.

Truett and Gwen were married young, and ended up getting divorced after significant trauma drove them apart and changed Truett into a shell of his former self. Gwen remarried, and discovered that the man she married was a grade A asshole. Gwen divorced him, and is back in town 18 years after her divorce from Truett to restart her life by spending her life savings to turn a dilapidated local café into a restaurant she can be proud of. Unfortunately for Truett, his Wednesday routine is ursurped by Gwen purchasing the café, and the two of them reunite after 18 years apart.

I love second chance romances because they are so angsty and messy, and this story delivered on all of that. I think it's my favorite second chance romance to date! Truett and Gwen were both mature characters (in their early forties and acted like it!), and you could feel their chemistry right off the bat! This is my crack - a tortured ex-military hero with trauma and PTSD that you just wanted to hug, and a badass, compassionate heroine that understood boundaries and how to drag our hero out of hell. I loved this book. The relationship, the believable dialogue, the realistic timeline of healing, the heartbreaking trauma, the reason they got divorced in the first place and why their relationship will work now...all of it. This book is now in my romance hall of fame.

Stop what you're doing and READ THIS BOOK!
