The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

4.0

Well, colour me surprised… I thought I was in for a bit of fun and pure fluff, and instead I got an actual plot and character development! And a kickass girl! And PIRATES!! Pirates make everything better if you ask me :) I think the blurb for this book is actually a bit misleading, because yes, there's traveling around Europe and adventure and a super cute relationship, but it also talks about more serious stuff
Spoilerlike abusive parents, racism, homophobia, sickness and female oppression
. So the plot was actually bonkers and there's a few holes in it, and the ending was a bit rushed and I wouldn't have minded a bit more kissing, but it was still funny as hell and the writing was great. Although I think its greatest strength are the characters. Monty is a clueless asshole, but you're still rooting for him all the time, and Percy is just dreamy, and if you're anything like me their cuteness will kill you ♥ And then there's Felicity, who just made it straight to my list of most awesome female characters of all time
Spoiler- seriously, she hides anatomy books behind romance novels to give herself an education, doesn't put up with anyone's crap, follows her brother across half Europe to help their friend and most importantly, tries to support her brother even when it goes against everything she's been raised to believe... how cool is she?
. Her book is going to be AWESOME :)
