The Brightest Night by Tui T. Sutherland
4.0

The fifth book in the Wings of Fire series, this is the last book under the first prophesy. The Dragonets of Destiny are finally at a point to bring the war to an end and choose the next Queen of Pyrrhia, but will they all make it out alive? This story is focused on Sunny. Seen by the other Dragonets (and a lot of all the other dragons) as a bit of a ditzy dragon who doesn’t come up with any good ideas, Sunny strikes out to prove them wrong and help resolve the war. While her efforts do get her in a few predicaments, some of her discoveries may be just what is needed to help move them towards a conclusion.
I have been enjoying listening to this series with my daughter and love getting to know the characters she has loved for some time. I think I have been appreciating the story more and more as the series has gone on. I loved getting to know Sunny more and understand more about what makes her tick. This book also included more interactions with Scavengers (humans) than the others, and we enjoyed laughing at their interactions and description of being so squishy! I felt this was a good, exciting conclusion to this part of the series and look forward to continuing on to find out what’s next once the war has ended!
Would highly recommend for kids/teens who like adventure stories and dragons! There are a lot of great themes about friendship and overcoming/understanding those who are different than you. In each book we see the characters grow and learn from their experiences.
