After We Fell by Anna Todd

4.0

It felt like this book took me forever to get through! It’s good though, just again, long. Could do with 200 pages less and still result in the same book.

To the haters of this series: I am learning something as I read it. You need to read the whole series before you write it off on one thing from book 1. Because book one sets up the entire toxic relationship. Book 2 shows that they can fight for real and not constantly forgive one another so soon after the blow up. And this one focuses on their life and their growth into new years, and thus their fights are real. That Tessa wants to make a life for herself and Hardin is refusing to follow, yet selfishly demands that she come with him to England. Honestly, this book didn’t do great for making readers like him. He was the full-on cause of almost every fight they had. Between banning her from having a friendship with Zed, even to say good-bye, to refusing to move with her but not tell her why, and then getting mad when she refuses to move with him. I don’t blame her. But all this had to happen. Because slowly… (very slowly) this is showing that he can’t stop and control her life all the time and that life will carry on around him if he isn’t the one to grow up and change.

My favorite was having Lilliana be the gay version of Tessa and be that other character to point out all their problems and his faults and make him back down from thinking that it is Tessa who needs to change.

The Steph thing I did NOT at all see coming. I’ve debated my feelings towards it. It seems random, but was a good drama. But also, maybe, slightly realistic too. If Steph really cared for Tessa she would have done some things differently. So the signs were there.

With the ending, I was less shocked as I saw it coming, but only after they found Hardin’s mom that night before her wedding. I knew it wasn’t random those two characters were chosen.

Onto the next one!
