I was just so bored and uninvested. This book seems promising as a gender-bent retelling of King Arthur, but it felt more like the names were used and then we were just given a different story. And I'd say it's debatable to say it's a gender-bent retelling.. as the story seemed to be coming more and more from Arthur still, and even though Nimue was chosen by the sword, seems to not be as active as a character. We get POVs from her, but they're lacking personality of anything that really would draw me into a story.
Right from the story, we're thrown into the action, which could be great but it just got confusing because the writing was really choppy. I felt like more characters kept getting thrown at me before I could really grasp who our first characters were. I trudged through because I was appealed to the premise still, but 150 pages in, I still felt nothing for the story or characters.
While reading this, I can see how it'd be a fun Netflix show, and I still plan on checking that out, but this book just wasn't for me.
