Anne of Green Gables
by L.M. Montgomery
No rating bc there’s no rating high enough for this book and these characters and the way this made me feel
this was one of the first books that introduced me to fiction when i was i’m younger and re-reading and annotating this book now that im older i have a new appreciation for it
this book occupies such a large part of my brain heart and soul bc of not only how good it was how real these characters feel and the fact that it sparked my love for reading
i love anne and marillas relationship so much it shows that people can truly change in ways that benefit the people around them and also themselves, and it also shows that first impressions don’t always have to define a relationship with someone.
i love anne and matthew’s relationship sooooooooooo much it really shows that people can go their whole lives thinking that there will never be anyone they can connect with and love so much and then anne came to matthew and matthew to anne and it proves that there is love and connection for everyone.
and don’t even get me started on when matthew died. i have never sobbed so hard when a character in fiction died.
and anne and gilbert’s relationship. hello. first he was the only one who didn’t tease her out of hatred, he only teased her to get her attention and immediately felt awful and kept apologizing. and then, even tho she hated him, he gave up everything for her, his job, his free living, and so much more.
this book and the relationships in it are so complex for a middle grade classic and i love it so much.
