The Burnout by Sophie Kinsella

3.5

"The Burnout" by Sophie Kinsella follows the story of Sasha. She has reached the end of her rope with work. Her team is understaffed, the emails keep piling up, and the ridiculous joyfulness program and mood board are a corporate joke. When she learns another person has quit, she loses it and, after a series of events, promptly puts herself in the hospital by walking head-first into a brick wall - literally.

When Sasha's mom decides that a break to her favourite childhood holiday spot would do her good (complete with a 20-step wellness plan, kale smoothies, and yoga), Sasha embarks on self-discovery. This book does what it is supposed to do - provide a light, frothy romance with an interesting commentary on burnout in the workplace, which is becoming increasingly common. Honestly, I loved the hotel staff and Terry, the surf instructor.

"Enjoy every moment. Because if you don't, what's the point? The ride is it." - Terry.
