If You Dare by A.R. Torre

4.0

Deanna Madden is a lot like Dexter Morgan. Definitely a serial killer with those strong urges to kill, but with a tad more humor and a lot more eroticism. Her days as a Cam Girl have dwindled down and she is spending more time with Jeremy and "normal" things. But is she "normal"? Will she ever be capable of Sunday dinners, children, and all the things Jeremy wants?

From the start, she has always been a likable character, and her victims did horrendous things. You never really want her caught, so when she finds herself behind bars, the plot of If You Dare becomes more mystery than the psychological thriller of her previous books. Why are the police questioning her? Who is the victim? And is our favorite anti-heroine really going to spend life behind bars? I absolutely loved this series and her character. The tone changed in the final book - less erotic, less a race to save those she loves or avenge others, and more introspective about who she is, what she has done, and her need to punish herself. Still a great read but not as enjoyable as the first two books.
