A Wicked Kind of Husband by Mia Vincy
5.0
Oh, this was tender and funny and a proper love story. I think something Vincy excels at is demonstrating how past hurts can linger on in the present in unexpected ways, ways that occasionally made me go I'm in this photo and I don't like it, but ways that nonetheless felt true and made Cassandra and Joshua real to me. Love how early they start liking one another in spite of themselves, and how well they work together as a team. Also love how Vincy turns a third-act conflict trope or two on its head — I found the ending in particular very gratifying.
Content warning at the beginning of the book lists miscarriage, but I'd also add mention of suicide (does not happen on-page but is discussed in enough detail to warrant a heads up), drug abuse, alcohol abuse, child death, and parent death.

Let him go? Let him try! Meanwhile, he'd already resolved to stay.
