DNF. I wanted to like this so much. But after trying both the original audiobook recording and the ebook, I couldn’t get through it. But honestly, it’s about 1200 pages too long, filled with scenes that should have been cut, as well as much unnecessary dialogue and description. It’s overly bloated but the world building itself is critically lacking. Most of it only made sense because I had the context from having watched the show.
Speaking about the show, usually my DNFs are one-stars but I think it earns the second since it became source material for a truly great tv adaption. It’s genuinely much better and focuses on Moiraine rather than Rand and the other four teens which makes it a much more interesting story.
If you decide to listen to the audiobook, spring for the new version recorded by Rosamund Pike! I was only able to get a sample of this, but the five-ish minute sample was much more dynamic than the original audiobook version which I had to DNF.
TLDR: Just watch the TV adaptation. But I might be willing to try again if there’s ever an abridged version!
