Okay, so this book didn't turn out to be anywhere near as funny as the first few pages led me to believe. I mean, it had funny moments, but it was a lot more in the realm of sad (and, at times, scary) than it was humorous. That being said, it was a great book. I think it does a good job of portraying a realistic version of where our society could be headed (in its decline and fall), but that's really just background for a story about relationships and how much trouble people have really understanding each other and assessing motives. In a society that is so focused on numerical rankings and projecting a good image, the people forget to actually relate to each other, to "verbalize." More than anything, this book warns me that we have to make an effort to really know people.
