This is How You Lose the Time War by Max Gladstone, Amal El-Mohtar

1.0

Sigh. This book committed the cardinal sin of fiction to me - it was boring. And that's a feat for a book 150 pages long. An interesting premise & purple prose isn't enough to carry a novel.

I wouldn't have picked the book up if I'd known it was just romance, since that's not really my thing - I'd been pulled in by the fantasy background, which really doesn't play a part at all except for decoration, but even the romance was lacking. The characters don't really have a personality except what comes through in their letters (less than half of the book) and even in that, there's nothing distinguishing; I wouldn't be able to tell them apart.
