this is definitely going in my top 5 favorite books. it felt like all my favorite fantasy and dystopian books growing up rolled into one but 1000 times better. it had the comfort of them all when Rin was at the academy, the mystery and push-pull of the gods’ power and Rin’s relationship to it. I have very mixed feelings about Altan and their relationship. I’m so glad there’s more to this universe I ordered the next two already! I can’t decide how I feel about Rin giving in to the phoenix, or about how she’s sworn to take down the Empress now too. lots of morality tests and complexities here. I loved it.
Graphic: Death, Violence, War
