Malam Tanpa Akhir -Endless Night by Agatha Christie

4.0

Halfway through the book, I was honestly exasperated that the story felt repetitive–it took a lot of chapters to introduce the main characters and people around them detailingly and establish their relationships. The narrator here sounds as if he were repeating the same things about him and Ellie, trying to convince us the readers that they were in love. After a long wait, the murders started to appear when we reached around page 200ish, which I found very odd and untrue to the usual Dame Agatha Christie's style. Moreover, the murders were written in such an underwhelming tone that it made me slightly uncomfortable about them. The way the murders entered into the picture of Mike and Ellie Rogers' tale was just like a second of blitz right in front of your eyes.

In spite of that, I am glad I didn't give up on this one. The dénouement makes the repetitive details and gradual pacing worthwhile and senseful, if you are looking back at the story as a whole picture.
