Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
3.0

the chapters in the beginning read so beautifully and were so witty with interesting observations of dialogue however as the story continued everything felt perfunctory. idk characters getting happy endings regardless of how little sense it makes in some respects to fit the moral decorum of the age is just not for me i guess, at least the approach didn’t work for me at all here, especially when i irritatingly cannot overlook that some so-called genteels deserved comeuppance. for a novel that is about the contrast and also the harmony between the two sisters of sense and sensibility, the disparities weren’t very interesting to read about as the story went on. the presence of whatever romance there was mainly looked on the powerlessness of women and their dependence on men who are unworthy of such importance and this was not lost on me however, just simply doesn’t feel interesting enough amid the repetitive he said she said / he loves me he loves me nots to indulge in then, and now, to talk about the outweighing negatives more than necessary.
