Edge by Jeffery Deaver

4.0

This was my review for Kaiwaka Library...

The edge is the advantage you have over another person to get what you want. In this case, it's what may save your life - or cost it.

Protection officer Corte works for a little-known government agency, protecting people from kidnappers (lifters) and assassins (hitters) and finding out who it is who put the contracts out in the first place (the primary). He's very good at his job.

Word gets out that a lifter has been hired, and other than the household that has been targeted, the only other certainty is that the lifter is Henry Loving - who supposedly died some years ago. Clearly that was a fake. Corte has a particular interest in Loving, since he killed Corte's mentor after torturing him to extract information - and Corte heard the whole thing over the phone as it happened.

But who in the Kessler household is the target, and why? Some things are not as clear as they seem at first.

This is an exciting book - I did not want to put it down once I started. I've read only one book of Deaver's before ("The Bone Collector") which was also a good read. We have several of his titles on our shelves. He has written a few series, but this is a standalone novel.
