jennlarene 's review for:
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Other Tales of Terror
by Robert Louis Stevenson
I’ve been listening to a few different Gothic Horror books as of recent, including Dracula, Frankenstein and this.
I liked how this was a short story, only a 3-hour audiobook. These 1800-early 1900s stories can be hard to keep up with — given the older formal language and sometimes fluffy narratives. The fact that this was a short story made it so much more digestible to hold my interest.
I didn’t have context beforehand either, so the ending wasn’t spoiled ahead of time. Definitely did not quite expect the twist. And it provoked a lot of philosophical questions about what happens when we let our dark sides peek through…. will this darkness eventually overtake us if we give it too much attention?
Definitely worth a read or listen to weigh in on this classic tale.
