Pretty darn good. The characters read as grounded and realistic while still having unique attributes that set them apart.

The dialogue all felt natural! And the author did this great thing where she would tell you the content of what the character was speaking without transcribing the actual words which is fantastic when the character has already given the reader the run down and doesn’t need to hear it verbatim being spoken to a new character!!!!!! Like it’s not a huge gripe I have with other books but it definitely happens where information gets repetitive and I was seriously so impressed with how it was handled in this book!!!! Additionally, the characters think about the questions being posed by other characters and often choose not to answer them or to change directions in the conversation. This one hundred percent happens in real life and I really appreciated that the characters felt like they were dynamic in their thought processes rather than being on a single track script. All of it felt organic and like the characters were real people interacting with a situation in real time.

Also, we love a non romance related theme within a romance novel that actually gets the attention and depth it deserves!! This was similarly well done in One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle where the main character’s focus is actually on grief and mourning the loss of a loved one.

Idk man. A really excellent romance that also gives its characters credit where credit is due.
