This was my first Robert Macfarlane book, and I’m officially hooked. Is a River Alive? is a poetic, powerful tribute to water’s wild heart. It’s part nature meditation, part climate call-to-action, and all gorgeously written; a reminder that rivers aren’t just part of the landscape—they are life itself.
The book’s central thesis (i.e. the question asked in the title) argued that rivers are living, breathing forces, carrying stories, memory, and momentum through every bend. It’s a compelling argument for nature’s unforgiving yet magically resilient force.
Couldn’t stop reading (or listening). Loved it.
