The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

4.0

Pros:
-Writing is scrumptious.
-Adding dynamic tension in places the original didn't have
-Expanding personality and relationships from the original
-Bringing classics to a modern audience, hell yeah Iliad!
-Thetis is badass

Cons:
-In the original, Pat a great warrior, he just CHOOSES to heal people. Making Pat weak detracts from that choice, even if it does leave more room for character growth.
-Not enough exploration of Achilles' rage issues.
-Very mixed feelings on changing Briseis'...."occupation" to be more palatable for a modern audience
-When enough major things are changed, it starts feeling like fanfiction. I have nothing against fanfiction, but it does lose a certain grace that I think it could've had if it stayed truer to the original
